A hiker clung to a tree for nearly three hours before being rescued Monday after falling 1,200 feet from a cliff at Nyack’s Hook Mountain State Park, according to authorities.

The man, who was not identified, apparently slipped at a trail entrance, and tumbled from one plateau to a lower one at about 12:30 p.m.

He then clung to the tree before finally being rescued by volunteer firefighters.

He was strapped to a stretcher and lowered from the slope.

Authorities estimate the man was able to break his fall about 140 feet above the Hudson River.

He suffered non-life-threatening hip and leg injuries, and was being treated for shock at Nyack Hospital, Nyack Fire Chief Vincent Reid said.
