A large fire that broke out at around 1:30am local time Tuesday in Rahway, NJ, was still raging hours later.

The Rahway Fire Department and neighboring fire companies were on the scene at St. Georges Avenue and Stone Street.

The flames erupted inside a three-story condominium complex under construction and caused the closure of Route 27 between Hazelwood and West Grand Avenue.

There were no reports of injuries.

Firefighters were initially in a so-called defensive operation — attempting to contain the flames but allowing the structure to burn — but at approximately 8:00am, they resumed pouring water onto the burning buildings.
