Hurricane José churned up the East Coast on Tuesday, creating dangerous rip currents and causing flooding along New Jersey and Long Island.
A tropical-storm warning remained in effect for parts of coastal Rhode Island and Massachusetts, but José was still forecast to stay well offshore as it passes the Jersey coast on Wednesday and gradually weakens.
New York state officials have deployed members of the National Guard and emergency response-units to Long Island, which is expected to receive one to three inches of rain.
