The Florida man who attacked a Muslim store clerk in Queens last month after uttering the words, “I kill Muslims,” was charged with assault as a hate crime in Queens criminal court on Monday.

Piro Kolvani, 55, approached Sarker Haque in Astoria as he worked on Dec. 10. The Jacksonville man began acting strangely.

Haque was attempting to ask Kolvani a question, when he suddenly screamed “I kill muslims!” and began striking the victim in the face.

Haque sustained minor injuries.

Queens Justice Barry Kron charged Kolvani with third-degree assault as a hate crime, third-degree assault, second-degree aggravated harassment and second-degree harassment.

Kolvani was released from court on his own recognizance. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.
