MASTIC BEACH, NY — School officials on eastern Long Island are seeking state approval to allow a drug rehab clinic to operate inside a high school.

William Floyd school officials say the costs would be covered by parents’ health insurance. It would be the only in-school treatment facility in the state.

The program would be limited to students at the school, which has an enrollment of 3,200. The Daytop substance-abuse agency would pay $18,000 for space in the school’s counseling area.

Officials say drug problems have been increasing. In the last two years, 38 students have been caught with drugs in school.
