The State Department says India has lodged two protests over the arrest of a diplomat’s daughter.
Krittika Biswas was removed from her Queens school in handcuffs and held for more than 24 hours in February. She was accused of sending nasty e-mails to her teacher but was cleared of wrongdoing.
The US says the Indian Consulate General in New York asserted that Biswas’ arrest was a violation of the Vienna Convention. The US sympathized with Biswas but said diplomats’ relatives don’t have immunity.
The Indian Embassy lodged a separate protest in April.
The city has declined to comment on Biswas’ $1.5 million lawsuit. She’s the daughter of Debashish Biswas, vice consul at the Consulate General of India in New York
