The owner of the upstate Indian Point nuclear power plant says managers will keep it running even if its largest union goes on strike or is locked out.

But the union says using substitutes to run the two reactors would be a gamble.

The union’s contract expired at midnight Friday.

Owner Entergy Nuclear and the Utility Workers of America are meeting with federal mediators.
