Just before Christmas, Kevin O’Malley got an anonymous e-mail that said his wife, Jennifer Goldstein, was having an affair with a business associate of his.

Now Goldstein has gone to court to compel AOL to ID the person who created the e-mailer’s account.

She says that she suffered “severe damages” as a result of the vicious rumor and that she wants to file a lawsuit accusing the e-mailer of defamation of character.

The couple declined to comment.
