A Bronx grandmother who won a $16 million jury award against the MTA after tumbling down a flight of subway stairs will accept a $5 million payout rather than take her chances at a new trial, her lawyer said Wednesday.

Maria Alcantara, 71, was awarded the higher sum in February 2014 for her December 2008 fall at the Graham Avenue L-train station — which left her permanently brain-damaged.

But NYC Transit appealed the decision, and a Brooklyn appellate judge decided Wednesday that Alcantara must either sit through another trial or accept $11 million less.

“Her family is going to use the funds for her sole use and benefit,” said her lawyer, Brad Kauffman.

A lawyer for the MTA did not return a message seeking comment.
