A Manhattan man who has spent almost seven years in the Rikers Island jail without a trial copped to manslaughter in exchange for 13 years in state prison.
Prosecutors made the offer to Carlos Montero, 24, weeks after The Post revealed his lengthy incarceration, which experts said was likely a record for a suspect awaiting trial in a New York jail.
Montero took the plea deal, which will credit him for time served, on Aug. 24 in Manhattan Supreme Court.
He was with two pals when one fatally stabbed a man and the other slashed another during a gang-related robbery in Washington Heights on Oct. 23, 2008, prosecutors said.
Montero waited six years and 10 months for his day in court before taking the deal. He’s expected to be sentenced Sept. 28.
Prosecutors said there is no offer for Montero’s pals Jairo Peralta or Diangelo Enriquez.
They have been fighting the DNA evidence against them, which has accounted for part of the delay.
