The FDNY is probing whether smoking in bed may have sparked the blaze that left veteran hero firefighter Patrick Brady dead in Brooklyn on Saturday, officials told The Post.

Chilling new video obtained by The Post reveals a first look inside a charred apartment at the Brownsville building where the Bravest was killed.

“I see lighters on the bed,” the building’s superintendent told The Post on Sunday.

“The ones investigating, they found them in there,’’ said the worker, who asked not to be identified.

“She smoked,’’ he said of one of the residents in the home. “She had cigarettes in the ashtray. She said to me, ‘Oh, I fell asleep, I was sleeping, I was sleeping.’ “

An FDNY  spokeswoman — later asked by The Post about the apartment, if the fire started in it and whether the blaze may have been caused by a tenant smoking in bed — replied,  “Those are all part of the ongoing investigation by FDNY fire marshals.”

Brady, 42, was on the roof while battling the flames when he suffered cardiac arrest and collapsed.
He was rushed to Brookdale Hospital Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

On Sunday, Brady’s widow, Kara, and his two FDNY brothers, Jimmy and Brian, were on hand for a touching bunting ceremony at his Brownsville firehouse to honor him.

Brady joined New York’s Bravest in 2014 and was assigned to Ladder 120.

The couple married April 1, 2023, after pranking 300 friends and relatives by inviting them to a promised birthday party — only to surprise them with an April Fool’s Day joke, as it turned out the event was their wedding.
