A Long Island Army veteran was headed home last night after being detained in Iraq for more than two weeks while working as a contractor.

Alex Antiohos and two other employees of a private security firm were taken into custody on Dec. 9 by the Iraqi Army in Mahmudiyah, part of the notorious “Triangle of Death.”

Officials didn’t think they had the proper paperwork, according to Rep. Peter King (R-LI).

The congressman pushed the State Department to get the men freed and wrote a letter directly to Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki about the situation.

All have been released, and Antiohos is due home Friday, in time for New Year’s Eve.
