A corrections officer with mai tais on his mind smuggled two iPhones and a bottle of tequila into the downtown federal lockup for an inmate who promised to help pay for a Hawaiian vacation, authorities said Thursday.

Metropolitan Correctional Center jail guard Dario Quirumbay “became friendly” with the inmate, who showed him pictures of his friends and luxury cars to convince Quirumbay he had money and could make good on an offer to pay $1,200 to $1,400 for the contraband, according to a Manhattan federal criminal complaint.

The guard agreed and, with the help of another inmate’s mom, allegedly began sneaking in the phones, chargers and alcohol for the prisoner over several days in September 2017.

But in reality, the inmate didn’t have the money and had to enlist other prisoners to scrape together the cash for the deal, according to court documents.

Quirumbay, 29, complained that he had only been paid $700 so far, noting, “he booked a trip to Hawaii expecting to be paid all of the money he was promised,” the complaint says.

Records show the guard took the trip to Hawaii on Sept. 29, 2017, and stayed for a week.

He spent more than $600 at a Louis Vuitton store in Honolulu, according to court papers.

Quirumbay, who faces up to 41 years in prison if convicted of charges including bribery and providing contraband, appeared in Manhattan federal court on Thursday and was released on $60,000 bond.
