Former Florida governor and brother-of-dubya Jeb Bush will be the keynote speaker at this year’s state GOP dinner, officials said.
Bush will be feted by a mystery emcee, state GOP spokesman Alex Carey added.
But Bush’s name was attached to a fundraising solicitation that went out to major party donors.
The event is usually one of the ways the state Republicans bring in a major fundraising haul for the year. Carey declined to say who else is speaking at the event, which was headlined last year by former Mayor Rudy Giuliani – then considered a key gubernatorial prospect – and also featured Mayor Bloomberg and others.
Giuliani was among the party bigwigs opposed to Cox’s chairman candidacy last year. Bloomberg didn’t get involved, but he has long been a major donor for the Senate Republicans – although there has been some sense he could stay neutral in the majority fight this year.
