Jeremy ju$t the ticket
These prices are Linsaaaaane — but worth every penny!
Knicks games are the hottest ticket in town since Jeremy Lin came out of nowhere to lead the team to an improbable six-game winning streak, including last-night’s stunning, last-second 90-87 win over the Toronto Raptors.
Post-Linsanity prices for Knicks home games on reseller sites such as StubHub and eBay have soared dramatically — as much as 108 percent for Sunday’s game against the NBA champion Dallas Mavericks — since Lin’s Feb. 4 breakthrough performance against the Nets.
“We have seen tremendous demand for Knicks tickets over the past couple of weeks since Jeremy Lin came onto the scene,” said Chris Matcovich of TiqIQ, which tracks ticket prices on the secondary market.
And the fans are getting their money’s worth as the Linsanity shows no signs of letting up.
The NBA’s first American-born player of Chinese or Taiwanese descent hit a heart-stopping three pointer with a half-second left to give the Knicks a come-from-behind win over the Raptors at the Air Canada Centre.
The “Asian” Night” crowd in cosmopolitan Toronto — where almost 12 percent of the population is of Chinese descent — went wild as the buzzer sounded, even though the hometown team went down to defeat.
The average price for a ticket for tonight’s game at Madison Square Garden against the cellar-dwelling Sacramento Kings is $379 — 65 percent higher than the pre-Lin average, Matcovich said.
The Raptors sold out the Air Canada Centre last night — during the previously scheduled Asian Night promotion — for only the third time in 30 games this season.
And the average ticket price was $240 — a 67 percent spike over their $143 average.
In Minnesota Saturday, the fourth-largest crowd in team history showed up for the Knicks’ win.
And the numbers show no sign of returning to earth, with prices for this weekend’s games going through the roof at the World’s Most Famous Arena.
The average price for a seat to see the Knicks play the New Orleans Hornets Friday is $385 — up 67 percent from before Lin.
And a ticket for Sunday’s match against the Mavericks is going for $478.
Beyond ticket sales, Lin has been a one-man stimulus package for everyone from T-shirt vendors to MSG-area restaurants reporting a spike in business.
