TRENTON — An Army soldier from New Jersey who was stationed at Fort Drum was killed in Afghanistan.

The Defense Department said Sgt. Michael Kirspel Jr., 23, died Wednesday from wounds suffered when terrorists attacked his unit.

Kirspel, 23, a 2006 graduate of Hopatcong HS, was assigned to the 3rd Battalion, 6th Field Artillery Strike division.
