A New Jersey man is accused of conning an 86-year-old motorist into paying him $11,200 after he flagged down her car and told her it needed immediate repair.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown said Friday that Billy Thompson, of Newark, N.J., was charged with grand larceny and criminal possession of stolen property.

Brown said the defendant stopped the motorist as she was driving through Forest Hills, Queens, last September. The DA said he told her the 1976 Dodge was in danger and he began working on it on the spot.

Afterward, Brown said Thompson drove the victim to the bank and she wrote him a check for $11,200.

Thompson’s defense attorney did not immediately return a call for comment.
