TOMS RIVER, N.J. — A lawyer for “Jersey Shore” cast member Ronnie Ortiz-Magro has told a judge his client will apply to a pretrial intervention program in an assault case.

The 25-year-old reality show star from the Bronx, N.Y., was charged after a September 2009 fight outside a Seaside Heights nightclub in which he knocked another man unconscious. The fight was shown during the show’s first season.

Assistant Ocean County Prosecutor Hillary Bryce said Monday that the application frees Ortiz-Magro to travel to Italy next month for the taping of the show’s next season.

Bryce told the Asbury Park Press that Ortiz-Magro will be required to appear in state Superior Court in June to learn if he’s been accepted into the program.

Pretrial intervention allows a defendant to avoid a criminal record if he stays out of trouble.
