New Jersey Transit is resuming regular train service for the first time since Hurricane Sandy caused $450 million in damage to rail cars, tracks and stations.

A new schedule will take effect Sunday that reflects rail operations systemwide at 99.6 percent, with 697 out of 700 trains that were running before Sandy.

The agency says it will offset the remaining trains with increased service. The changes include six additional trains on the Morris and Essex lines and six trains on the Montclair-Boonton lines.
