Even after Canada goose sent hero pilot Chesley Sullenberger splash-landing into the Hudson River last January, sparking a crackdown, the risk of bird-plane collisions in New York continued to rise.

Bird strikes near Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark airports were up 10 percent during the first seven months of 2009 — even as the number of flights dropped by 5.5 percent, according to stats from the Port Authority and the feds.

In all, the feds counted 153 bird strikes at Kennedy, La Guardia and Newark in the first seven months of 2009, compared to 139 strikes during the same period a year earlier.

Nationally, bird-strike reports were up 22 percent in the first seven months of 2009. Officials say reports from August through December, when birds migrate, could boost the annual tally by 40 percent.
