The company that provides wheelchair assistance at JFK Airport is accused of violating the city’s human-rights law by denying requests from Muslim employees for break time to pray.

A complaint filed by the city’s Commission on Human Rights on Jan. 13 alleges managers at Pax Assist Inc. also harassed Muslim employees over a radio system when they asked for accommodation for the Ramadan fast in June and July.

The 250-worker firm could face civil penalties as high as $250,000.

The city’s action stems from a complaint by three members of the 32BJ Employees Service Union.

A Pax Assist Inc. employee who said he is a manager but refused to give his name said the allegations “have no merit.”
