New York City Comptroller John Liu says the city school system is not doing enough to keep track of bullying incidents.

Liu released an audit on Friday of city Department of Education’s efforts to comply with its own anti-bullying regulations.

Liu said the department has not updated its online reporting system and has been unable to track incidents reported by schools. He said the department needs to do better.

The Department of Education said in a statement that it is ahead of major school districts throughout the country on the issue of bullying.

A spokeswoman said the department is committed to maintaining a safe and supportive educational environment for all students.

Liu is seeking the Democratic nomination for mayor.
