He’s already a saint in the hearts of millions around the world — and the Catholic Church is now well on its way to making it official.

An estimated 200,000 religious pilgrims were in Rome yesterday on the eve of the beatification of Pope John Paul II, one of the most popular pontiffs in history.

Catholics from John Paul’s native Poland, as well as from Spain, Germany and Brazil, prayed, sang and listened in awe as French nun Marie Simone-Pierre recounted how she was cured of Parkinson’s after praying to the pope.

The Vatican has decreed that the nun’s healing was the miracle needed to beatify John Paul.
