New York police believe the ransacking of American TV personality Jon Gosselin’s apartment was a publicity stunt, according to “insiders” cited by RadarOnline.com on Wednesday.

Gosselin, 32 — known for appearing in reality TV show Jon & Kate Plus 8 with then-wife Kate Gosselin and their eight children — filed a criminal complaint after he said he found his New York apartment trashed on December 26.

He blamed ex-girlfriend Hailey Glassman. However police investigating the case suspect the incident may have been staged, sources told RadarOnline.

Police uncovered a suspicious note in the apartment — allegedly from Glassman — which was pinned to a dresser by a large Japanese chef’s knife. That particularly strikes investigators as staged, the sources said.

RadarOnline.com obtained a photo of the scene, which also shows pieces of cut-up furniture on the floor.

“The more cops have looked into it, the more they feel like it was a publicity stunt,” a police source told RadarOnline.com.

“They absolutely think the butcher knife part of it is B.S.”
