A Manhattan judge was acquitted yesterday of charges she tried to hide the source of $250,000 in over-the-limit donations to her run for the bench.
Surrogate Judge Nora Anderson could have faced up to four years in prison had she been convicted of lying on her state disclosure forms in the 2008 bid.
“I’m very happy,” a beaming Anderson said afterwards.
Her moneyman and co-defendant, estate lawyer Seth Rubenstein, declined comment. “We are gratified by the verdict,” said Rubenstein’s lawyer, Fred Hafetz.
Rubenstein had deposited the $250,000 in Anderson’s personal bank accounts in 2008, during her bid for the bench. Anderson immediately shifted the funds into her campaign, claiming they were her own and, therefore, exempt from donation limits.
