Judge shoots down hit man
A day after a mob hit man for Gambino boss John Gotti made a bid to overturn his murder conviction and life sentence, a federal judge flatly rejected the appeal.
Charles Carneglia, 65, wanted to invalidate his conviction by claiming that his lawyers failed him and procedural errors marred his trial.
But Brooklyn federal Judge Jack Weinstein yesterday rejected his case and wrote that the defense attorneys’ advice was sound.
“Taking the witness stand … would have allowed the government to demonstrate convincingly” that Carneglia was “incorrigible, with a background that would be terrifying to any juror,” Weinstein wrote.“Taking the stand would have sealed his fate.”
