A $2.5 million IOU signed years ago by political power broker Percy Sutton is no good, a Manhattan Supreme Court judge declared last month, dismissing a legal claim from a Sutton family friend seeking to cash in.
Beverly Hemmings claimed the Alzheimer’s-stricken Sutton, who died in 2009, had offered to cash in shares of his Inner-City Broadcasting Corp. to pay for her “highly valuable economic, technological and financial assistance” from 1970 to 2002, court papers state. She sued Sutton for the cash in 2008.
But Judge Barry Ostrager tossed Hemmings’ claim, finding “no credible evidence” she did any work for Sutton, adding that Sutton’s signature on the IOU was “subject to question.”
