The seven women and five men who will determine the fate of “pharma bro” Martin Shkreli have gone home for the day–without returning a verdict.
The panel deliberated for just over six and a half hours before sending out a note, asking Brooklyn Federal Court Judge Kiyo Matsumoto “how late” they were expected to stay.
“They’ve been at this all day,” Matsumoto said, before determining it was appropriate to release them.
As the jurors filed out, a beaming Shkreli sat at the defense table, hands clasped and smiling at the men and women as they took their seats.
Other than another note from the five alternate jurors– who asked if they could leave their separate enclave to go buy snacks–not a single communication came from the deliberation room all day.
Shkreli spent most of his day sitting in the federal courthouse cafeteria, hunched over a table.
“In for comms director,” Shkreli wrote on Facebook mid-afternoon after the news that Anthony Scaramucci had been booted from his job as Whitehouse Director of Communications.
Others seemed to have the same idea, as Twitter erupted with suggestions the loudmouth be offered the job.
“Congrats to Martin Shkreli on being the presumptive White House Communications Director!” wrote film producer Keith Calder.
The jurors return Tuesday at 9:00a.m. to resume deliberations.
