Jury nixes Lidle suit
Late Yankee pitcher Cory Lidle’s widow struck out yesterday in a bid to hold the maker of her husband’s private plane liable for more than $45 million in damages over his fatal 2006 crash.
Melanie Lidle broke down in tears after a Manhattan federal jury ruled in favor of Cirrus Design Corp. after about three hours of deliberations.
Lidle and fellow widow Stephanie Stanger had alleged that a design defect in Lidle’s SR20 caused the controls to jam while he and pilot pal Tyler Stanger attempted a U-turn over the East River.
Cirrus blamed pilot error for the accident, in which the single-engine plane slammed into an Upper East Side apartment building.
Plaintiffs lawyer Hunter Shkolnik vowed to appeal, saying Manhattan federal Judge Barbara Jones had “cut our legs off” with a series of pretrial rulings.
