Gov. Kathy Hochul is getting roasted … over her weekend grilling.
Twitter users are mocking the New York governor — who is currently running to be elected to her first full term in office — after she posted a photo of herself grilling burgers and dogs on Sunday that seemed very staged.
“Great day for a barbecue, New York,” Gov. Kathy Hochul wrote in the post alongside a photo of her wearing a perfectly white dress and even cleaner white apron wrapped around it while holding a hamburger patty on a spatula.
Twitter critics said it looked clear from the picture that the governor was at best an inexperienced griller — if she’d ever flipped a burger at all.
“Tell me you’ve never barbecued anything without telling me you’ve never barbecued anything,” one user snarked, zooming in to the patty on her spatula.
Others said its downright crazy to grill in an all-white getup.
“I, too, grill greasy burgers wearing all white and stay 100% spotless,” one sarcastic internet user wrote.
Another chimed in that the governor’s dress made the image look out-of-touch and inauthentic, replying to her tweet: “Flipping burgers in a white dress like the rest of America.”
“Nothing says ‘being relatable to voters’ like grilling store-bought burger patties while wearing white,” another user posted.
Her GOP challenger Rep. Lee Zeldin was also quick to call her out, saying there was no way the picture could be real.
“Rightfully so, Kathy Hochul is getting far more grilled for this badly staged photo op than that hamburger patty she’s awkwardly holding in that 8 second old white apron,” the Long Island politician wrote.
To top it off, the governor also seemed to offend Southerners, who said grilling burgers and hot dogs doesn’t count as a “barbecue.”
“When someone in the south calls this barbecue instead of grilling, they are escorted off the property,” a Twitter user quipped.
Even Sen. Thom Tillis, a Republican from North Carolina, quote-tweeted the photo and wrote, “Bless your heart.”
“This looks like a picture in a brochure for a culture,” wrote Brandon Morse, an editor at the right-wing website Red State.
Internet users also had something to say about Hochul’s meat-eating habits.
“Governor, you really need to seek nutrition advice from @NYCMayor,” someone wrote, referencing Mayor Eric Adams’ alleged vegan lifestyle. “Those should all be #PlantBased. For your health and the health of the planet. The animals will thank you too.”
