A Kazakh woman who made headlines by battling her ex-husband for control of their $20 million Plaza hotel apartment is now accused of taking a dozen Hermès handbags worth $400,000 without paying.
Maira Nazarbayeva — who was married to fertilizer tycoon Bolat Nazarbayev, brother of the Kazakhstan president — ordered the bags from the Financial District business Samilor in 2014 and 2015, but she never paid up, according to a Manhattan federal lawsuit.
When Samilor President Bella Belkin warned of legal action, Nazarbayeva allegedly threatened to hurt Belkin and her family.
“You know who my son is! He is son-in-law of the prime minister of Malaysia!” Nazarbayeva allegedly raged. “I will hurt you and your family if you sue me!”
A lawyer for Nazarbayeva didn’t respond to messages seeking comment.
