Banks should install floor-to-ceiling barriers to limit their chances of being robbed, Police Commissioner Ray Kelly suggested yesterday.
Two of five city banks robbed Wednesday did not have “bandit barriers,” including Investor’s Savings in Astoria, Queens.
The City Council years ago rejected a proposal to mandate such barriers, as bank execs argued that the glass walls would drive customers away. But Kelly thinks they’re a strong deterrent.
“It gives the employee, the teller, the ability to walk away,” he said. And “they’re actually quite attractive.”
