A New Jersey kindergarten teacher kindly — but forcefully — told Gov. Chris Christie to pipe down and act like a grownup, if he harbors any presidential aspirations.

While Woodbridge instructor Cheryl Meyer was nothing but cordial to the brash governor, she didn’t mince words at a town hall meeting Tuesday night at Old Bridge High School.

Meyer said she struggles to explain to her young students why their governor is so often a foul-mouthed hothead.

“I really feel you need to tone it down if you want to be president of the United States,” she scolded Christie.

“I would love to see more of this [relaxed, non-screaming] Chris Christie … than I’m seeing on the news.”

The governor, who regularly engages in shouting matches with New Jersey teachers and other political opponents, took the criticism in stride — but didn’t apologize for his volatile persona.

“When I think that I’ve said something that’s over the line, I’ll apologize for that,” he said. “But the one thing people never have to wonder about is what I’m thinking.”

Christie said he doesn’t want to be a politician searching for the “blandest, most vanilla thing” to say.
