Rites and festivity stepped off Purim merriment at the Kings Bay Y.

Mom, dad and the kids headed to the bustling community facility, 3495 Nostrand Avenue, to participate in a carnival, plus savor a hamantaschen to celebrate the deliverance of Jews from a planned massacre in ancient Persia.

The observance is marked by fasting, the giving of gifts and charity, plus a reading from the Megillah, also known as the Book of Esther.
