Students at Kingsborough Community College put their best foot forward to raise money for scholarships with a walk-a-thon around their waterfront campus.

More than 700 walkers dressed up for the occasion in gimmicky team costumes, stepping off the second annual trek alongside members of the faculty, raising more than $30,000 — a $9,000 increase over last year’s jaunt, bragged spokeswoman Ruby Ryles.

The top fundraisers were even hailed with an awards ceremony: First place honors went to “World Wide Communicators,” led by Judy Cohen, from the Communications and Performing Arts Department. A four-team collective from Continuing Education — “T.F. Tailgaiters,” A.C.E. Cards,” T.2 Seagullsk,” and “M.A.C. Aquarians” — came in second. “Mickey’s Clubhouse” from the Human Resources Department was awarded third place.

“In these difficult economic times, it’s gratifying to know that we have some additional funds available to provide scholarship assistance to deserving students,” said Kingsborough President Regina Peruggi.
