BAY SHORE, N.Y. — Police on Long Island say an 18-year-old student has been arrested on assault charges in a fight at a Bay Shore high school that left another student with a cut abdomen.

Suffolk County Police say the fight happened just before 3:30 p.m. Thursday between two Bay Shore High School Alternative School students in the school’s rear courtyard.

Police say the student cut a 19-year-old student in the abdomen with a weapon. The student was hospitalized with a non-life threatening injury.

The 18-year-old suspect is to be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on Friday.

Police did not release their names. No other information was immediately available.
