A longtime labor lawyer has been indicted for allegedly scamming more than $350,000 in union dues paid by performers and stagehands with the famed American Ballet Theatre, the Manhattan U.S. Attorney’s Office announced this afternoon.
Leonard Leibowitz — nicknamed the “orchestra pit bull” for his fearsome legal tactics — failed to strike a plea deal despite nearly two years of fancy footwork since his July 2009 arrest.
The 72-year-old lawyer faces up to five years in the slammer if convicted of embezzling union funds.
