Video posted on Twitter shows the moment flames erupted from the chimney of the landmark Federal Reserve Bank in Lower Manhattan.
The fire began in the chimney and generator of the historic 14-story building at 33 Liberty Street around 8:35 p.m. Saturday, and erupted into a two-alarm blaze about an hour later, the FDNY said.
Jay Destro tweeted the video minutes after the fire broke out, with the caption, “Uh, the Federal Reserve is kinda on fire.”
More than 100 firefighters and EMS workers were on scene.
Firefighters brought the flames under control at about 10:55 p.m., officials said.
No injuries were reported. The cause of the blaze had not been determined by Sunday morning.
