HOBOKEN, N.J. — The last new PATH rail car has been entered into service.

The car rolled on to the rails in Hoboken on Monday, completing a three-year replacement of the mass-transit line’s 340-car fleet.

Replacing the cars, some of which dated back to the 1960s, was a $744 million project that began in 2009.

Port Authority Deputy Executive Director Bill Baroni and other officials were among the passengers on the new car’s initial trip.

PATH trains shuttle riders between Hoboken and Jersey City and lower Manhattan.
