The head of the City Council’s Transportation Committee demanded Thursday that Mayor de Blasio start installing traffic safety bollards in front of schools, public plazas and bustling corridors.

Responding to Tuesday’s pickup truck terror attack on the Lower East Side, Councilman Ydanis Rodriguez (D-Manhattan) said the de Blasio administration not only needs to support his bill requiring more bollards in sensitive areas , but must act immediately.

“We can’t wait for another attack,” said Rodriguez, while speaking outside City Hall Park.

Rodriquez was joined by transportation safety advocates, Councilwoman Margaret Chin (D-Manhattan) and Councilman Jumaane Williams (D-Brooklyn).

Both Williams and Rodriguez are among a crowded field of Council members trying to become the next speaker.

Rodriguez, who introduced his bill in June, said City Hall has yet to get behind it because the administration feels the NYPD should determine where any additional bollards should go.

He could not provide an estimate of how many bollards would be have to be installed under his plan or the cost.
