The Nassau County Sheriff’s Office is run like a frat house where two male bosses trade sickening sexist remarks as female co-workers walk by, new legal papers charge.
The men, including tour commander Lt. Lou Cafiero, even devised a name for their revolting running-commentary performance — the “Lou Show,’’ the documents state.
“It is outrageous that conduct like this can occur at all, let alone in a governmental agency,” said Rick Ostrove, the lawyer for Deputy Sheriff Alicia Boudouris, who filed a lawsuit in Brooklyn federal court and a complaint with the state Division of Human Rights.
“It’s time the county starts taking sexual harassment seriously,” Ostrove said.
The displays of pathetic adolescent “wit’’ take place in public areas of Boudouris’ unit’s office in the basement of family court, her suit says.
According to the lawsuit, the male supervisors have targeted Boudouris and other female officers, allegedly including when:
- Cafiero, speaking of another female officer, once asked, “Do you think her tw-t smells as bad as her breath?”
- He asked about another woman officer, “Is it me, or is her ass getting any wider?”
- Cafiero began calling Boudouris “Boobdouris,’’ and when he found out she learned of it, tried to convince her he thought that was really her name.
Boudouris says she was taunted not just about her sex, but her age.
Cafiero’s cohort, Deputy Dan Sydor, said it was “disgrace” that they hired her, calling the 45-year-old officer “Old Mother Hubbard,” “old hag” and “old bag,” according to the suit.
At another “Lou Show’’ performance, Cafiero and his sidekick targeted another woman, with Cafiero allegedly saying, “It’s like she’s on the rag times 10.”
Sydor agreed, saying, “Exactly! That’s why women don’t belong in certain professions,’’ the state complaint says. Cafiero and Sydor are the only two named in the civil lawsuit against Nassau County an in the state complaint.
Boudouris says that when she confronted her tormentors, Cafiero told her she was on probation and that no one was afraid of her.
He also suggested she “make friends with the guys,’’ and told her to quit if his remarks offended her.
Boudouris, who is married, claims that Cafiero spread a false rumor that she was sleeping with a fellow officer. Finally, she claims, she was falsely accused of faking overtime records and transferred to a unit where she had fewer opportunities to work extra hours.
Boudouris’ unit helps the Department of Social Services locate assets of deadbeat parents, among other things.
“We do not comment when there is an active EEO investigation. We take any allegations of this nature seriously and plan to fully investigate this matter,’’ said county attorney Carnell Foskey in a statement to The Post.
