A former lawyer at the white-shoe firm Bryan Cave was stripped of his license Tuesday for his role in an elaborate scam involving the failed purchase of Maxim magazine.
A Manhattan appeals court says Harvey Newkirk’s recent conviction for wire fraud should result in his suspension from practicing law.
Newkirk, who was hoping to make partner at Bryan Cave when he was arrested last year, had argued that he should keep his law license pending an appeal of his conviction.
A court panel said that Newkirk lied to investors to secure an $8 million loan to finance the purchase of Maxim.
