So much for compromise.

Left-leaning groups pushing the City Council for a bill forcing private companies to provide paid sick leave have redrafted their proposal to include fines to punish companies that don’t comply.

Advocates for paid sick leave had been expected to offer a compromise to make it more palatable to the city’s business community.

Instead, the latest version puts costly fines into the bill, such as ordering a business to pay employees three times their daily salary or $500, whichever is greater, if they were not paid after calling in sick.
