A gay Manhattan man who had twins with a lesbian partner he found online says he was plunged into a costly, years-long legal fight when she reneged on their agreement and his attorney delayed initiating legal procedures.
“It was like a big money grab,” stock trader Lawrence Chachere said.
When Chachere, 52, decided to pursue fatherhood nearly a decade ago, he thought he found a willing female partner.
The woman became pregnant with a boy and girl, but reneged on a deal to “share the kids” and won $1,404 a week in child support.
His lawyer, Robert Preston, took 2¹/₂ years to litigate the issue, costing Cachere $169,000, he says in a Manhattan Supreme Court lawsuit against Preston.
Preston did not return messages, and the mother declined to comment.
