Steve Levy is continuing to ramp up his effort, hiring a John Faso veteran as his communications director.

Josh HIlls was Faso’s communications director during his uphill fight for governor in 2006 after he won the GOP nomination in a shocking upset over establishment favorite William Weld.

“Josh’s communications experience and knowledge of New York State will make him a great asset to the team,” Levy said in a statement. “His experience in political campaigns and in the halls of the Capitol brings a unique skill set to our communications operation. We welcome him to the team as we move toward victory in November.”

Hills worked with another recent Levy hire, Michael Hook, on the Faso race in 2006. Hook also was involved in Erie County Executive Chris Collins’ exploratory effort at a run for governor (he ultimately didn’t pull the plug).

Faso himself has endorsed Levy, arguing he is the only candidate who has tried to articulate a plan for dealing with the state’s massive budget issues.
