LYNBROOK, N.Y. — The state Public Service Commission says a Long Island couple can get back about $420 in utility charges. They say they’re owed about $10,000.

Sal and Ruth Mazzaro of Lynbrook are appealing.

The Mazarros say they were somehow classified as a commercial customer.

The PSC says they should have been scrutinizing their bills and rate brochures over the past 41 years.

The Mazzaros tell Newsday that utility bills are too complicated and cryptic. They say their son discovered the error when he happened to examine the bills in March.

National Grid says it “will continue to follow practices outlined by PSC rules and regulations.”
