MINEOLA, N.Y. — A New York man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to poison his 2-year-old daughter.

Police say 45-year-old Khemchan Sulaiman of Queens and the child’s mother were embroiled in a bitter split-up. They say he may have been attempting a murder-suicide when he and his daughter were found in a vehicle Monday on Long Island in a semi-conscious state.

Ammonium chloride, commonly found in fire extinguishers, was found in the child’s bottle. A chemical used in household pesticides also was found on the pair’s bodies and throughout the vehicle.

Sulaiman was held without bail in a bedside arraignment Wednesday. He and the child were listed in stable condition.

He is represented by a lawyer from Legal Aid, which does not comment on pending cases.
