The headmaster of the tony Long Island private school Lawrence Woodmere Academy has stepped down — just after The Post ran a former student’s explosive first-person account of teacher sex-harassment and administration stonewalling.
The departure of 14-year headmaster Alan Bernstein on Thursday — the same day as The Post report — was announced to parents in a lengthy e-mail Friday.
“There are a few structural changes we would like to announce,” reads the e-mail under a cheerful, all-caps subject line touting, “EXCITING AND IMPORTANT CHANGES AT LAWRENCE WOODMERE ACADEMY.”
Half-way down the lengthy missive, which was addressed to “Lawrence Woodmere Academy Families,” was the announcement that the former director of the school’s summer-camp program, Barbra Feldman “will step in as Head of School.”
The e-mail did not mention Bernstein by name.
“He’s no longer with the school,” said a woman who answered the former office phone for Bernstein to The Post on Friday. “As of about a day ago.”
The departure of Bernstein also comes three months after a different teacher, Daniel McMenamin, 33, was arrested for allegedly raping a 14-year-old female student in 2014.
Former student Samantha Farber’s other allegations in Thursday’s Post — describing how an unnamed teacher sent her creepy come-on letters over the course of two years — are from 10 years ago.
Neither Bernstein, who lives just a 10-minute walk from the academy, nor Feldman would comment Friday.
McMenamin remains free on bail pending a Feb. 15 court date in Nassau County.
Alumni at the school — where tuition can easily top $32,000 a year — include President Trump’s former fixer, Michael Cohen (Class of 1969) and Major League Baseball COO Tony Petitti, (Class of 1979).
