CORAM, N.Y. — Police say a man who had locked himself and his elderly mother in her Long Island home died after he tussled with officers and was shot with a Taser gun.
Police say they’re investigating the death of Darryl Bain at his mother’s Coram home early this morning.
Police say Bain’s brother called 911 alleging that the 43-year-old was high on cocaine and had shut himself in the house with their 78-year-old mother. Officers got to the house about 2:46 a.m.
Hearing a struggle inside, police say officers entered the house and fought with Bain. He was temporarily stunned after being shot with a Taser.
Police say he continued to struggle as they handcuffed him. He stopped breathing moments later.
The Suffolk County medical examiner’s office will determine the cause of death.
