GARDEN CITY, N.Y. — About 110 students at Adelphi University on Long Island are currently on lockdown after a suspicious powder was found inside a campus building.

Adelphi spokeswoman Kali Chan says an orange powder was found inside Alumnae Hall earlier Tuesday. Campus security and local police and fire officials are at the building. Chan said the students are being kept in the building as a precaution. A Haz-Mat crew was examining the substance.

She said the students inside the building are continuing with their classes.

The Long Island-based college has 8,600 students enrolled in at campuses in Garden City, New York City, Hauppauge, and Poughkeepsie.
